Safety message ahead of June 20th
Leading Link have issued a health and safety notice ahead of The Big Outdoor Cinema, which is set to take place on the evening of Saturday June 20th at Attlee Park in Bedlington.
The statement reads:
"Leading Link are delighted with the community's response towards The Big Outdoor Cinema screening of Grease, which this week received funding support from Northumberland Council's Community Chest scheme to allow us to keep the event FREE for all to attend.
Whilst we want the open air cinema to be accessed and enjoyed by all, the safety of everyone on the field remains our primary concern and as such, there are a number of actions that we are putting in place to ensure that the event runs smoothly:
1. No alcohol permitted at the event
Our Temporary Events Notice (TEN) licence does not allow for the sale, distribution or consumption of alcohol at Attlee Park during the event. This is a family event and we would ask that people refrain from bringing alcohol with them - anybody who is seen with alcohol by event stewards will be asked to remove it or put it away until the end of the screening.
2. No glass permitted at the event
As a safety precaution we would ask that glass bottles are not taken onto the field. There will be a 'glass amnesty' area at each entry point where liquid can be transferred into plastic cups and taken onto the field for the event.
3. Car Parks
Attlee Park car park will be open to the public after The Big Event shortly after 5pm. Spaces will be allocated on a first come, first serve basis with a limited number of disabled parking spaces reserved. The car park will be stewarded to ensure that parking takes place safely and sensibly.
Once full, cars will be asked to park in a temporary car park at the top of Bedlington bank (on the field next to Millfield Estate) and walk down the newly installed pathway to Attlee Park.
4. Clearing the site after the event
After the screening has finished, the audience will be guided into the car park (for those that are parked there) and up the new pathway and into Bedlington for everyone else. After receiving advice from the Police, cars exiting Attlee Park will be marshalled left, up the bank and into Bedlington after the event - this is mainly to avoid traffic and safety problems of turning right towards Blyth/A189 Spine Road on what is virtually a blind bend.
We would ask for your patience and co-operation with our stewards and volunteers as we try to clear the site as quickly and safely as possible."
Build up to The Big Outdoor Cinema will begin just before 8pm with interactive performances from Five Ring Circus and The Arts in Partnership, as we count down towards the screening of Grease just before 9pm.
