Youngsters engage in the arts
Young people from Northumberland have been engaging in the arts, as part of The Arts in Partnership - a new initiative from Newcastle College.
Local charity Leading Link have been working with The Arts in Partnership to provide a number of exciting and interactive opportunities for Northumberland Children’s University Passport holders and the Youth Ambassadors™, who are a dedicated group of young volunteers that work with the charity.
The Arts in Partnership is a new initiative set up by Newcastle College to stimulate and excite young people in engaging with the arts for enrichment but also as potential career routes in their future.
The Youth Ambassadors™ took part in an interactive drama workshop, designed at developing essential skills around communication, leadership and teamwork to help them with their volunteering work.
The aim is to apply this skillset so that they can facilitate their own workshops for their younger peers in schools in the local area.
Leading Link also worked with the arts provider to organise a day of fun activities for young people with Northumberland Children’s University Passport holders, during the Easter holidays.
The youngsters experienced creative art on a unique scale, working with animators from ‘Characterpilla’ to design and create their own characters and watch them be brought to life on screen.
They also got a taste of the West End as they were taught a flashmob dance to a medley from the hit musical GREASE, which they entertained their parents with at the end of the day.
Lyn Horton, manager of Leading Link, said: “Our work is about maximising the potential of young people by giving them ‘real’ experiences – and when we first met The Arts in Partnership, we were incredibly impressed by their incredible enthusiasm and creative mindset.”
“The workshops over Easter offered our participants a unique and engaging experience which was on another level, and we are incredibly excited about working together again in the future."
