The Lodge is Leading Link's main office. It is a school and community facility that was officially opened by Ian Lavery MP in September 2011.
The Lodge is situated on Ridge Terrace in Bedlington, with a separate access to the school that it is based on. It holds a central position within Northumberland with easy access to the A1 and the A189 Spine Road. It is open to students, organisations and the local community, as well as being home to Leading Link.
The building has been of great benefit to Leading Link, as well as schools, young people and the wider community. It has hosted an array of activites including local youth-led debates, family fun days, half term activities for children, educational workshops, strategic development meetings and more, with thousands of people stepping over the threshold since it was opened in September 2011.
Through various projects with young people, we have been able to add a tranquil outdoor garden space with garden benches, a BBQ, an outdoor Pizza oven and a grow-your-own vegetable patch. The back of The Lodge also has a pond feature, a wildlife walkway, a greenhouse and attractive artwork on the walls.
Facilities for The Lodge include:
The Lodge houses two medium-sized workshop spaces, both approximately 12m x 6m in size. The two spaces are
seperated by a set of doors which can retract and make one larger space if required.
The venue is suited to host any occaison, and in the past has hosted conferences, seminars, meetings, training workshops, dance classes, table top sales, Christmas fairs, theatrical performances, social events and much more.
Facilities include: toilets, baby changing facilities, tea and coffee making facilities, projector and screen, LCD television.
The room is perfect for smaller and more formal meetings and/or those that required confidentiality or privacy.
The Lodge also boasts high speed Wi-Fi throughout the building, which gives access to the internet where required.
Facilities include: toilets, tea and coffee making facilities, laptop with speakers, Wi-Fi connection.
INFORMAL MEETING SPACE
This space is very popular when holding meetings with young people, especially for the first time, as it invites more conversation and interaction than a formal meeting around a table.
It is generally used throughout the school day by students for eating and talking with friends at lunchtimes and our Youth Ambassadors holding meetings after school with their peers.
The suite will be used by Leading Link to produce media working with young people from schools in the local area. This will give the young people the skillset and experience whilst also giving pockets of Northumberland the platform to shout loud about the area to an international audience. The suite is also used to record a new show to Radio Northumberland called Sound Box
The suite also has filming and editing facilities, including the capacity to record interviews etc.
It features an array of different trees, plants and flowers, as well as water feature, a vegetable patch and a wonderful millstone with a colourful sun-catcher driftwood design as a central feature.
The back of The Lodge is now currently under development - it will eventually feature a 'wildlife walkway' with 'Bugingham Palace', an eco-greenhouse made from recycled bottles and wooden musical instruments.
Leading Link has laser printing and full scale colour printing, scanning and photocopying capabilities, as well as access to the internet through a secure WiFi network and laptop access as required.
We also have a projector, a wall screen, laptop and speakers available as well as an LCD television to display
